Cast[edit | edit source]

Major changes[edit | edit source]

  • The show mostly appears to be a revision of the 1985 script, however some scenes and dialogue from earlier versions of the show are returned.[1]
  • The show is turned into a one act
  • The cast is made significantly smaller
  • The opening scene is different from any other version of the show. Dialogue from a Broadway transition is used
  • Rich and Happy's lyrics are slightly different
  • The transitions are changed completely, many of them are preformed and sung backwards
  • The Polo Lounge scene returns from earlier versions, however, much of the dialogue is reworded. Gwen and Frank's interview is replaced with Frank and Gussie eating a meal. Instead of being interviewed, they are bothered by two fans.
  • The interview is set up by Frank. Significantly shortened version of the 1985 scene. There is no post scene.
  • The 1968 scene is largely untouched from the 1985 version, though much of the dialogue is reworded and cut.
  • Charley moves to Connecticut.
  • The Divorce Scene is split into two scenes, with Gussie at the courthouse being on and Frank and Beth being at home for the other. Beth sings Not A Day Goes By to him, Now you know happens in his apartment
  • Evelyn is mentioned being at the Blob Party
  • Some dialogue in Gussie's party is taken from earlier versions
  • An entirely new scene is added, based off a scene in the 1934 play. The Shepard family, along with Beth's parents, express financial and interpersonal conflict. It is noted that Frank has declined the offer to write a film. Some dialogue from the 1981/1985 1960 scene is used.
  • The wedding scene is significantly shortened.
  • The scene on the roof is shortened
