Gussie Carnegie is a major side character in all versions of Merrily We Roll Along (Sondheim/Furth)

Gussie was born Shirley Molinsky and her name was changed after she got engaged to Joe Josephson1985 who was her boss.[1] It is unknown how old she is or where she was born.

She has had multiple husbands, however Joe Josephson and Frank Shepard are the only ones shown in the show.[2]

Gussie is the character with by far the most varying history. Originally, Gussie was just Joe's wife, and was given the choice to choose the composer and lyricist for Musical Husbands. However, in later drafts, she replaced Terry Turner as the star of Musical Husbands.

Gussie says she was spoiled, that her parents divorced shortly after she was born, and that she never got along with her mother1981

Gussie admits to being unhappy to Frank in 1963-1962.

Gussie does not get along with Mary Flynn, and in some versions, Charley Kringas.

She was originated on Broadway by Terry Finn
